Pelican Beach Hotel
POINTS OF INTEREST
Pelican Beach Hotel
North Caicos islanders Susan and Clifford Gardiner built this small, palmetto-fringed hotel in the 1980s on this quiet and almost deserted beach in Whitby. The couple's friendliness and insights into island life, as well as the beachfront restaurant's home-baked bread and island dishes (Cliff's favorite is the cracked conch and island lobster), help create a full island ambience. Booking at Pelican Beach may be with or without breakfast included. Over the years, upkeep of the property has been somewhat inconsistent, but rooms are nevertheless very simple and comfortable. Best are Rooms 1–6, which are five steps from the lovely white sand beach. There's also the Barracuda Beach Bar, the perfect spot to kick back, relax, and enjoy lunch or a lazy evening where you might choose to hang out with newly made friends.
